ISN History

The International School of Ningbo (ISN) is known officially, as the International Division of the Ningbo Zhicheng School.  The Ningbo Zhicheng School was founded in 1995 by Madam Chen Hui to meet the educational needs of domestic students from kindergarten through high school. In 1997 the school was approved by the local educational authorities and the Foreign Affairs Office to offer foreign academic programs.  In 2002 the school moved to its current campus in the Jiangbei District of Ningbo. Today, the domestic division educates 1,300 Chinese boarding students residing at the school from Sunday to Friday.

In 2014, recognizing the need for an academically rigorous American international school located within Ningbo, a group of parents from the local international community initiated a dialogue between Mr. Ahangarzadeh and the Chen family, the owners of the Ningbo Zhicheng School.  After initial meetings, follow-up research and consultations with international families. Mr. Ahangarzadeh developed a proposal outlining the aims and academic and facilities requirements of the new international school. All parties involved concluded that a clear alignment of aims existed and that the educational arena of Ningbo would benefit greatly from the opening of such a school. The approved school plan was shared publically in a town hall style meeting by Mr. Ahangarzadeh, Madam Chen Hui and Ms. Jing Chen in April of 2014. Major renovations of three classroom buildings continued throughout the summer months while faculty and academic resources and materials were secured. With 24 foreign teachers in place, ISN formally opened classes for 40 enrolled students on September 10, 2014.
